Mysore, June 23, 2007 (MRS&RR)- A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will come up in city. The Centre yesterday granted its approval to set up the SEZ at Koorgalli Industrial Area.

The Board of Approval (BoA) on SEZs in its meeting yesterday in Delhi approved 36 projects in the country including the only project in Karnataka—Koorgalli.

The Board, however, deferred the decision on the controversial Nandagudi SEZ on the outskirts of Bangalore as the farmers are protesting.

The approval allows Tandon Holdings Pvt. Ltd to set up an SEZ in Information Technology and IT-enabled services along with a Hardware Park at Koorgalli.

According to reports, the company has sought 32 acres of land for the project.

The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board Develop-ment Officer Shivakumar, however, today told Star of Mysore that the company has sought 28 acres.

He said the Tandons had applied for SEZ through Udyoga Mithra, a wing of the Industries Department. The same was forwarded to the Centre.

The Centre now sends its approval to Udyoga Mithra, which forwards it to KIADB.

“Then we have to allot lands to the company”, he added.

The KIADB has already notified for the acquisition of 560 acres of land in Koorgalli and surrounding villages.
