No forcible land acquisition: CM

Bangalore, June 24, 2007: Even as opposition Congress has launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s alleged double-speak on acquisition of lands for setting up Special Economic Zone at Nandagudi, the Chief Minister on Saturday reiterated that there would not be any forcible acquisition of lands for the project.

“No one will be forced to part with their land, nor will we bring a legislation to take the lands. We have made it clear many times that farmers will have choice of their own on their land either to retain with them or to hand over at market price to the promoters of the SEZ,” he told media persons here on Saturday.

Replying to queries about the union government rejecting the Nandagudi SEZ proposal he said, the proposal had not been rejected.

He stated that it had only some clarifications from the promoters, who had submitted two similar proposals in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

He also denied that the farmers of Bidadi village were resisting and their land was being forcefully taken for the construction of Gandhi township in his constituency.

He accused the Congress of misleading the public through false propaganda.

Defending the government’s decision on creation of two new districts, he said that the government had constituted a committee to recommend the formation of new taluks in the State.
