New Delhi, July 12 : The Board of Approvals (BoA) today cleared 28 proposals of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), including Mukesh Ambani’s Navi Mumbai project.
The board gave formal approval to 21 SEZs proposals and seven ‘in-principle’ cases.
On July 6, the Parliamentary Committee on the SEZ had said that no further SEZs should be notified unless the existing law is amended to incorporate the changes related to the land acquisitions.
The maximum area for the multi-product SEZ should not be more than 2,000 hectares, if the land acquired is cultivable, the Murli Manohar Joshi headed-committee said in its 83rd report.
An empowered Group of Ministers (GoM), however, has fixed the land ceiling limit at 5,000 hectares.
‘All land for SEZs should be taken on lease by developers. There should not be transfer of ownership,’ the report said.
