Dust settled, SEZ saga now unravelling

New Delhi, 8 Oct, 2007 (TNN): The din over allegations of land grabbing and revenue settled, impact of the special economic zone (SEZ) policy across the country has started showing up. Going by sheer numbers, southern states and some western states are extracting maximum advantage out of the SEZ policy and the East and North-East are losing out. ‘SEZs will widen regional disparities’

Bangalore, October 08, 2007: Not a day passes without protests against setting up special economic zones (SEZs) in the country. The SEZs, which are being promoted by the Government to attract investment, will widen regional disparities within States and will reduce land available for farming, according to Guy Ryder, general secretary, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), that has 18 million members worldwide.
