Cabinet approves rehab for displaced farmers

New Delhi, October 11, 2007 (CNN-IBN): The Union Cabinet has approved the rehabilitation and resettlement policy for farmers affected by large industrial projects, including Special Economic Zones. The policy says that land will be provided to all those whose land is acquired for SEZs. According to the policy, one person from each affected family is to get employment in the project. New national policy on land acquisition: Cabinet

New Delhi, October 11, 2007 (UNI): The government today announced that the new National Policy on Rehabilitation and Resettlement 2007 would provide land-for-land compensation for acquisition of land for development purposes, including special economic zones (SEZs), and employment to at least one person from each affected family. New R&R policy seeks to please both displaced and developers

New Delhi, Oct 11, 2007: Virtually painted into a mid-term poll corner by the Left over the Indo-US nuclear deal, the UPA government on Thursday shifted into populist gear. It approved the much-awaited National Policy on Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R), cleared a productivity-linked bonus for railway staff and decided not to increase retail price of petrol or diesel. New rehabilitation policy for farmers approved

New Delhi, Oct 11, 2007 (PTI): Amid an outcry over land acquisition for SEZs and other projects, the Centre today approved a national policy providing for allotment of land in return of land, besides preference to affected families for jobs in the projects coming up on their plots. The National Policy on Rehabilitation and Resettlement, 2007, replacing the policy of 2003, was cleared at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
