New Delhi October 15, 2007: Contrary to criticism, special economic zones (SEZs) have started delivering the goods so far as exports, employment and industrialisation are concerned. Since the SEZ Act was notified in February 2006, 22 SEZs have been up and running. In the last financial year (2006-07), these SEZs collectively exported goods worth Rs 33,000 crore, roughly 6 per cent of India’s total exports of Rs 5,71,641 crore. Mangalore, October 15, 2007: The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has plunged into the ongoing agitation against the acquisition of land under for the proposed Mangalore Special Economic Zone, thereby fortifying the efforts of Krishibhoomi Samrakshana Samiti (KSS), an organisation fighting on behalf of the farmers in the affected villages. Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, president of KRRS, visited Permude, Delantha Bettu, Tenka Yekkaru and Kuthethoor, which have been notified for land acquisition, on Sunday on the invitation of the KSS.
