New Delhi, November 05, 2007: The Union government is in no hurry to decide on the West Bengal government’s request to deploy central forces in troubled Nandigram. The Union Ministry for Home Affairs is likely to make up its mind after its own assessment of the situation, sources said. While a company of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been kept on standby, there is the political aspect to be considered, according to sources. Freeze on Pune SEZ

Mumbai, November 05, 2007: The Maharashtra government has suspended land acquisition for the Videocon group’s proposed special economic zone near Pune. Industries Minister Ashok Chavan told DNA: “Taking into consideration all the aspects and opposition of farmers in particular, the government has decided to temporarily suspend the process.” Chavan declined to say if the SEZ plan would be scrapped.
