Mumbai, November 05, 2007: The Maharashtra government has suspended land acquisition for the Videocon group’s proposed special economic zone near Pune. Industries Minister Ashok Chavan told DNA: “Taking into consideration all the aspects and opposition of farmers in particular, the government has decided to temporarily suspend the process.” Chavan declined to say if the SEZ plan would be scrapped.

NCP president Sharad Pawar had announced that the SEZ could either be scrapped or shifted elsewhere as farmers in the area were opposed to it. The SEZ was proposed on 2009 hectares in the villages of Wagholi, Lonikand, Bakori and Kesnand.
