Nandigram, November 8, 2007: Nandigram’s violence continues to rage on, with 12 people being killed so far this week. In a shocking move, CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s plan to deploy the CRPF has been stalled by the Left Front government, which fears that rather than curbing the violence, such a move would be considered even more provocative.

“No CRPF now. We have asked the Government to settle the matter through discussions,” said Senior CPI(M) leader, Jyoti Basu.

Added West Bengal Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray, “Now, it seems that all that we had done over the last three-four months appears to have gone down the drain.”

“We have to think of things again,” he said.
