Chennai, November 8, 2007: The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to set up a high-level committee of officials to draw up norms for land acquisition while setting up special economic zones. The committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, will have the Industries Secretary, Finance Secretary and Revenue Secretary as its members.
It will examine all aspects of the issue, hold detailed discussions with all stakeholders and draw up a draft policy, which will be studied by a Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Draft policy
Once the sub-committee clears the draft policy, it will be placed before the Cabinet for approval. The Cabinet also decided to hand over the 1069.99 acres near the Chennai airport to the Airports Authority of India for taking up expansion work.
A meeting of leaders of all parties represented in the Assembly had approved the decision on May 22.
