Haryana sends proposals to set up 87 SEZs in state

Chandigarh, November 11, 2007 (PTI): Haryana Chief Minister today said that the state government has forwarded 87 proposals to the Central government for setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state, which would bring in an investment to the tune of Rs two lakh crore in the state.

Out of the 87 proposals forwarded by the state government to the Central Government for establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the State 57 have already been sanctioned in principle, Hooda informed while talking to the media persons in Hissar today. A total investment of Rs two lakh crore would be attracted in the State which would provide employment opportunities to 20 lakh persons - he added.

Hooda also said that the Haryana Government had implemented a new Industrial policy under which special concession was being given in the rural areas. An investment of Rs 28,000 crore had been attracted in the state during last 32 months as against the meager Rs 40,000 crore invested in the state during the last 40 years upto March 2005.

According to Hooda, the government was laying thrust on promotion of contract farming and the marketing policy was also being changed for the benefits of the farmers. He assured that the agricultural production would increase with the help of improved variety of seeds and better manure and fertilisers.

The Government had also set up a cold chain so that the fruits and vegetables could be preserved for a long time, Hooda said, adding horticulture was being promoted in a big way in the state for diversification of the crops thus enabling the farmers to raise their income.
