Bhubaneshwar, November 21, 2007: With little opportunities available for them in the State, pharmacy students of Utkal University have sought a pharmacy SEZ zone in Orissa for development of pharmaceutical industry.
Making a representation before Governor M C Bhandare here on Tuesday, the students rued that most of the graduates are forced to leave the State as there is no firm here which can generate employment opportunities.
Therefore, if the SEZ comes up, it will not only attract big names but also help people here avail of quality medicines at reasonable prices.
The students, who are celebrating the National Pharmacy Week, also demanded that their department be converted into a full-fledged organ of the university, offering regular programmes.
Started in 2000, the department has a strength of about 260 students. It offers B. Pharm and M. Pharm courses.
During the pharmacy week celebration, the department will organise blood donation and health check-up camps. The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘know your pharmacist for right use of medicine.’
