Sancoale panchayat resolves to oppose SEZs

Vasco, November 29, 2007: A majority of the members of the Sancoale panchayat have resolved to oppose the Special Economic Zone coming under the jurisdiction of Sancoale panchayat.The special meeting of the Sancoale Panchayat was held today wherein the deputy sarpanch, Mr Ramakant Borkar, Ms Partavva Bhingi, Mr Bhoj Naik, Mr Premanand Naik, Mr Rocozinho Vales and Mr Nilesh Dalvi were present. Reliance SEZ: cracking a crisis in corporate way

November 29, 2007: Recently, the Union Government decided to cap the size of an SEZ at 12,500 acres. But that did not deter the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) from setting up the biggest SEZ in Haryana, spread over a whopping 25,000 acres. The company, playing its cards cleverly, decided to have two separate SEZs in same area, thus thwarting the Government’s decision to cap the size of an SEZ at 12,500. All over the country, the very concept itself is under a cloud following the vehement and violent opposition to the proposed SEZs at Nandigram in West Bengal and Nandagudi (near Bangalore) in Karnataka.
