M’lore SEZ meet cut short amid protests

Bajpe, November 29, 2007: The public consultation on environmental impact of Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project chaired by Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao here had to be ended abruptly. Representatives of some NGOs and villagers demanded postponement of the meeting as authorities had not given Environmental Assessment Impact (EAI) report in Kannada, the local language. People wait for hours to submit memorandum to official

Mangalore, November 28, 2007: It proved to be a long-drawn-out wait for members of the Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti outside the gates of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday. While the members wanted Deputy Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao to come and accept their memorandum urging him to postpone the environmental public hearing on the proposed Mangalore Special Economic Zone, the official was nowhere to be found. IT, ITeS firms prefer SEZs to STPI locations

Bangalore, November 28, 2007: IT firms located in Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) locations are now preferring Special Economic Zones (SEZs) backed by favourable fiscal benefits.
