New Delhi, January 6, 2008: BPTP Group is investing Rs 4,150 crore in SEZs across India. It has recently received approval from BoA to develop a 27-acre SEZ in Sector 102 of Gurgaon, 54 acres in Sector 81 of Faridabad, besides approval from UP government for 25 acres in Noida and 100 acres in Greater Noida where the investment is envisaged. New Delhi, January 6, 2008: SEZ developers, including Reliance, Omaxe and DLF, waiting for a favourable decision on removing the 5,000 hectares ceiling on multi-product SEZs, may have a long wait. The commerce ministry is of the view that case by case consideration for relaxation of the ceiling would be possible only when the new Land Acquisition Act is passed and the relief & rehabilitation package is fully implemented. We have two kinds of rural development: One, the traditional variety; it targets the very poor.
Two, the latest fad, the special economic zone (SEZ); it takes very rich investors to poor villages. The former has failed again and again but its sponsors will not concede defeat.
