No fertile land for SEZs: Himachal CM

Shimla, January 9, 2008: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday said his Government would go ahead with the proposals on SEZs, but added that no fertile land would be acquired for the purpose. He said the state would follow the Gujarat model on SEZs and farmers who were willing to sell off their non-agricultural lands would be allowed to do so. Scrap all SEZs, says Goa Govt in letter to Centre

New Delhi, January 8, 2008: In yet another sign that the Goa Government’s U-turn over Special Economic Zones is more about political expediency than socio-economic rationale, the state on Tuesday wrote to the Centre saying that all the approved and notified SEZs in Goa be scrapped, citing its inability to provide water and electricity to the industrial units. Centre approves two Punjab SEZs

New Delhi/ Chandigarh,January 9, 2008: Chandigarh IT-SEZ gets formal approval, Ludhiana engineering SEZ gets in-principle nod. Formal approval has been given to Chandigarh-based Sukhm Infrastructure (P) Ltd’s IT SEZ, spread over 16.86 hectares with a proposed investment of Rs 745 crore.
