Panjim, February 6, 2008: Contrary to reports appearing in a section of the press that Keri villagers had adopted a resolution to support the Cipla project sans SEZ status, the Keri Nagarik Kruti Samiti has denied the same.
Clearing the air over the project on Wednesday at a press conference held in the city, Keri sarpanch and Convenor of KNKS Dr Videsh Jalmi held, “Wrong information has gone out to the press. When the mater was raised at the gram sabha on February 3 there were less than 20 people. We are still saying ‘no’ to Cipla’s project, Meditabs Specialities Pvt Ltd.”
“For that matter,” Jalmi further said, “We are opposed to any project that threatens the ground water table of the area in Bhuthkhamb which is environmentally fragile.”
Again, earlier being on October 2 gram sabha, the KNKS reiterates its stand that the people of Keri are clear about their stand on the issue and demand that the land be reverted to its original owners, Dr Jalmi asserted.
