Racharlapadu, March 22, 2008: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that agro-based industries from across the globe will be invited to set up their units in the first ever multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
With several countries keen on having collaboration with Indian companies, particularly in the agro-based field, the Kisan SEZ could become a right platform in the agro-based segment.
Facilities
Addressing a huge gathering after laying the foundation stone of the Kisan SEZ here on Friday, the Chief Minister said the multi-product SEZ, which was being set up by the Indian Farmers’ Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), would provide the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities to a range of industries with primary focus on food processing and agro-based industries.
“It will consist of logistic zone with warehousing and cold storage facilities besides having a food-processing zone, where related industries will be set up along with other secondary and tertiary ones like automobile components”.
Job opportunity
Claiming that the Kisan SEZ could provide around 10,000 employment avenues to local people, Dr. Reddy said the SEZ would impart training in agriculture and post-harvesting technologies as well as grain-harvesting facilities and construction-related skills to raise value-addition to agriculture produce.
“Hence, it could pave way for the overall development of the region in particular Nellore, Prakasam and Kadapa districts in the next few years.”
Earlier welcoming the gathering, IFFCO Chairman Surinder Kumar Jakhar said the cooperative fertilizer giant would use only green technologies to minimise damage to the environment.
“Hence wind, biomass and solar power will be used mostly to meet energy needs of the Kisan SEZ.”
