Govt calls meet of 6 states to speed up SEZs

Kolkata, 3 Oct, 2007 (TNN): To hasten implementation of special economic zone (SEZ) projects, the Union commerce ministry has asked states to come up with a single-window clearance mechanism for SEZ project developers. Nearly every state government has been asked to set up a high-powered committee for SEZs and come up with a governance structure for SEZs. AP to acquire 2000 acre from Vizag farmers

Chennai/ Hyderabad October 03, 2007: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Monday gave a go-ahead for acquiring 2,109 acre land in addition to the existing land acquired for the 9,000-acre AP Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) at Visakhapatnam at the rate of Rs 5 lakh per acre compensation to the land losers. SEZ-displaced in for a better deal

Kakinada, September 29, 2007: People affected by the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) are in for a better package than the one announced under the Resettlement and Rehabilitation policy of the government, according to sources in the SEZ management. The major aspect in the package is the payment of compensation in cash not only for the house but also to the site on which it is built. While those losing the house will be provided a house site measuring 150 sq. metres each in the rehabilitation colony, more benefits are being offered to families below the poverty line. Jai Balaji to invest Rs 450cr in SEZ

Calcutta, September 27, 2007: Jai Balaji Sponge Ltd will invest Rs 450 crore in its proposed special economic zone (SEZ) for steel processing near Durgapur. The company, which recently changed its name to Jai Balaji Industries Ltd, also plans to develop a 5mt steel plant in Purulia at an investment of Rs 16,000 crore.
